At Home At School Fund Raising Event in Portland Oregon
AHAS is a community
outreach program for disadvantaged youth.
They are having a
fund raising event on June 14th, Saturday from 11 am - 6 pm at
Jantzen Beach Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Portland, OREGON.
AHAS is a wonderful program for disadvantaged youth. 20% of the purchase
price of any book will go to benefit AHAS.
Who are AHAS students? The AHAS summer program is designed as a preK-8 program. Enrollment is open to students regardless of residential address, but most students in the summer program reside in Evergreen, Vancouver, and Battleground school districts.
The program is
designed to provide educational support and social enrichment to
students who are “low status”—e.g., homeless, live in transitional and
other subsidized low-income housing, qualify for free and reduced lunch,
or are in foster care, chronically ill, English language learners, have
an incarcerated parent, low school attendance, and so on. Volunteers and
AHAS benefactors also enroll their children, as do families who live
near the host school.
AHAS also relies upon cash donations from individuals. Checks can be made payable to the WSUV Foundation, with a notation on the memo line AHAS/Susan Finley. If you or others you know are able to help out, AHAS volunteer teachers and students would greatly appreciate your support!
